A Camp with Kingdom Impact -Thomas Road Outpost

(Picture taken from the camp)

IMG_7739.jpg

This October we were blessed with a tour of the Thomas Road Outpost Camp. This was very excited because we live in Northern Michigan and the Camp is in Lynchburg, VA and we have been giving to this project.

Before I tell you about the camp, I want to share about my camping experience. I don’t remember how old I was, but I was old enough that it made an impact on my life. But this impact was not a Kingdom impact. I was so excited to be going on this camping trip with my friends. I had some really close friends that we did everything together and this was going to be the best time, so I thought. We were going to go canoe on the Au Sable River in Michigan.

To keep this story short I will just hit the highlights. I had a leader who didn’t look out for us, instead he brought drugs to give us. Not really understanding the impact this was going to have on me, wanting to be a part of the gang, I participated. Little did I know he also had other intentions. This was horrifying and even as I write this I can’t even think of the details, even though I have been set free from my past, I have no use in giving those events another look except to use it as a stepping stone to tell you that experience was no “Kingdom Impact”. There are many children who need to be rescued from the chance of having that same experience.

That is one reason I am passionate about this camp. My husband is the other. He had a vision many years ago about a place like Thomas Road Outpost Camp. One that would give so many a great outdoor experience and reach them for the Gospel. When we visited the camp in October we took a four wheeler to the top of the mountain. Along the way we saw the cabins that are being built, the zip line area, the place they will be having outdoor survival activities, and so much more.

Thomas Road Baptist Church has been involved in camping programs for over fifty years. In March 2014 they were given 500-acre parcel of land in the midst of the Blue Ridge Parkway’s Peaks of Otter Region. It was donated to be repurposed as a youth camp with the emphasis of reaching at-rist youth from Virginia and the surrounding areas.  They also will be having Marriage seminars and other events.

Their focus is to reach thousand of children each year through Christ-centered camping experience in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. This is a place that children can leave the pressures and distractions of modern life behind and just be kids. They will experience camp life, have fun, but will be given hope and love. TRO encourages campers toward a life changing relationship with Jesus Christ.

Each year they receive thousands of requests from the area but are unable to house them due to the limited space. They have the potential to reach so many with The Gospel of Jesus, bringing hope and healing to them. So that is why I am writing this post. I am reaching out to whoever reads this to please consider giving to this worth while project. Help TRO make that “Kingdom Impact” to as many as possible. You can help change a life.

Rend Collective -A Wake Up Call

12829462_10206042736247920_6938925849133034523_o

Rend our hearts before God. When attending a Rend Collective concert, this is what came to mind. A Wake Up Call to America. It is time we examine ourselves to see if we are in the Faith. We have been a blessed country & we take for granted what freedom we have. Freedom to Worship our God with our whole hearts. Freedom to Worship in the market place, our jobs, our homes, & so many more places. But that is not the case with other countries. We must learn from what has happened to other countries who had this freedom, but now must Worship in secret. Our Country is slowly taking our freedoms away.

We are as the church in Revelations:  Rev. 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked…

Let’s arise and win this nation back. Let’s rend our hearts. Pray for Revival!

Joel 2:12-13 Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.

Worship is a lifestyle. Live it out today…

Rend Collective have never lacked imagination. From the bewildering array of children’s toys and whimsical, handmade oddities they call instruments, to the hare-brained and wonderfully impractical scheme of recording a live album on the beach around a campfire, to the safety-defying audacity of shooting a music video on a fully-operational fishing boat in the turbulent Irish Sea, this fascinating worship community have always pursued the colorful and unexpected.

Fittingly, the genre-blurring artists have an unusual backstory. Hailing from the small coastal town of Bangor in Northern Ireland, the Collective developed organically, outside of the influence of the music industry and CCM culture, as a self-described “group of confused twenty-somethings trying to figure out faith, life, God and community.”

They gathered at Rend, a ministry for spiritually hungry young adults, desperately seeking an authentic, raw and real expression of church, which was informally pastored by bandleader, Gareth Gilkeson. This honest and genuine movement of prayer and missions was accompanied by the birth of a new breed of worship songs that became the foundation for their first and critically acclaimed 2010 album, “Organic Family Hymnal.”

Since these formative years, the folk-influenced troubadours have, to their surprise, been thrust onto the world stage as leading voices in the evolution of modern worship. Following the 2012 release of artisanal alt-pop project, “Homemade Worship by Handmade People,” the band has gone from strength to strength. Their endearingly raucous live show has brought out thousands of fans to sold out tours on bothsides of the Atlantic, and they have shared stages with some of the biggest names in Christian music, such as Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman and Tenth Avenue North. Foot-stomping revival hymn, “Build Your Kingdom Here,” proved to be a mold-breaking hit at Christian radio and, with views numbering in the millions, the accompanying concept music video was honored with a Dove nomination.

Refreshingly, the international spotlight has little altered the heart of the Irish worshippers.

“We wanted to push boundaries because our God is not safe or small: He has a wild imagination.” Rend Collective

Charles Billingsley -The many faces of Worship

12798897_10204846673361432_4855316029815261225_n-1

Angie and I really enjoyed a very special concert at Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg VA that marked the release of Charles Billingsleys new recording “Right Here”..  More than entertainment, more than a show, more than a mere concert; this night was a worship experience that crossed all generational lines and drew believers into the very presence of Jesus..  We work with alot of artists in alot of venues and I can honestly say that I have rarely sensed the moving of the Holy Spirit as strong and powerful as we did on March 6th at this event.. You can really tell that the team there are people of prayer. God showed up!!
Watching Charles live is a blessing in itself. His vocal range is truly amazing and the connection with the audience is most powerful… If there is one thing I can say about brother Charles it is that he has a real gift and passion to lead people into the presence of God and my wife and I both said after the concert; we really did not see Charles Billingsley or TRBC as wonderful as they are, We Saw Jesus! We felt His presence among us and caught a small glimpse of what the Glory of Worship in heaven must be like..
So, to sum it all up… If you buy one worship CD this year then “Right Here” must be it…. And…. if you ever get the chance to see Charles in Concert, you won’t be sorry… This is truly music that ministers!!

“Each time I set out to create a new project it begins with prayer. I ask the Lord to give me wisdom to write songs, choose the best songs, find the perfect producers, and sing well. It’s a lengthy process that can take several months, but when I finally receive that finished master, it’s a wonderful feeling of accomplishment. Then…the work really begins. Now that the project is complete, it is my job to communicate the truth of these songs to you, the listener.” – Charles Billingsley

Right Here – A Worship Experience for All Generations – Charles Billingsley

12512325_10153909344031563_106686160149174379_n

Charles Billingsley serves as the Worship leader at Thomas Road Baptist Church, the artist-in-residence at Liberty University, and the president of Red Tie Music.  His solo ministry still takes him all over the world as he leads worship at churches, events and many conferences.

Charles is anointed to bring the body of Christ into a spirit of worship. He is a humble man who loves people & loves God. Charles has a radio spot, as well as an app, which is called “Words on Worship” which draws the listeners into living a life of worship before God.

I love the app “Words on Worship”. It is a daily reminder that we are to live a life of “worship”. Worship is truly a lifestyle. It is part of who we are in Christ Jesus. Charles encourages his listeners to truly seek God with all of your heart, soul, & mind. He shows us that worship is not just a Sunday morning thing we do. Worship is more than the songs we sing. Worship is an outward expression of an inward working of God.

Worship means simply living each day for His glory and loving Him with all our hearts. – Charles Billingsley

Charles has a new album coming out on March 4, 2016. I encourage you to get it. I have listened to the album’s title song, “Right Here”. It sure blesses me. Our days in this life can be challenging and hard at time. BUT we have an awesome Father that loves us so much and this album will draw you into that deep relationship with Him. You don’t have to go through life alone. ….for He has said, “I will never [under any circumstances] desert you [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], nor will I forsake or let you down or relax My hold on you [assuredly not]!” (Heb. 13:5 AMP)

“If you hear Charles sing or watch him lead worship, you know you are experiencing one of the great talents in all of the Church- but when you know him, you quickly discover his talent is no longer what blesses you.  You will be challenged by Charles passion for Christ and His kingdom.  The depth of his love for the Lord is what you will love about him!”
– Mike Harland, President of Lifeway Worship

1422493546829

Romans Road and Positively Uplifting Music Productions present the Save A Life Tour 2015. The tour consists of a team of Christian musicians dedicated to using their individual gifts and talents to bless and reach the inner cities through worship, testimony’s and song. The tour will stop in four different cities this spring and summer.

May 16: Kensington/Philadelphia, PA May 30: Camden, NJ July 11: Trenton, NJ July 25: The Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York City, The next event is October 17th in Norristown Pa. For more information follow their website…

The budget goal that we are looking to reach is $1,500. Monies raised will do these specific things. Jacob’s Corn Maze – Not just another Corn Maze – It’s an experience

Jacob’s has been owned and operated by the Witkop family since 1892 and is recognized by the State of Michigan’s Historical Commission as a Centennial Farm.StandingJacob – Clear Background

It was in 1879 that Jacob Witkop suffered the loss of his merchant ship after it struck an iceberg and sank off the coast of Russia. Penniless, it took a year to work his way back home to Bierrum, Holland. With the need to establish a new life for his family he gratefully accepted the opportunity to come to America, helping bring a ship filled with hopeful immigrants to the new country. Arriving in America in the spring of 1881, he somehow found his way to Traverse City. Later that year he sent for his wife Pieterke, who was pregnant with their sixth baby, and their other five children. Their voyage across the Atlantic Ocean took six weeks.

For the next few years Jacob made his living working on the railroad and helping lay the first hard surface streets in Traverse City. Pieterke and the children helped where they could with chores such as picking blackberries near the south edge of town on “Boughey Hill”. The boys contributed to the family picking up work which included taking farmers dairy cows down to “East Bay” to water them.

With a dream for their own farm the family saved until they were able to purchase their first farm in 1887. The farm is located on what now is called “Harry’s Road” just a few miles west of Traverse City. Here the family settled in an old house on the site until their new home could be built. By 1892 Jacob was able to acquire his second farm
, just south of the original, which is located on what is now known as State Highway 72.

jacob-spyThe first farm was passed on to Jacob’s son Hiram. The second farm was passed on to his son John and his wife Mary in 1918. On this abundant farm John and Mary raised five children of their own. As the 1900’s progressed there were opportunities for their children to move off the farm and find careers in the expanding American economy. John and Mary’s second son Hiram (named after his uncle Hiram) was asked to serve his country in World War II. This took him away from the farm from 1941 to 1945.

After the war ended Hiram married Jane Nelson of Leland, purchased the farm from his parents and raised four children. In addition to running the farm, Hiram and Jane established Northland Farm Equipment which they operated from the same site for some 35 years until 1983.
In 1995, Hiram and Jane’s only son Michael with his wife Laverna of Interlochen purchased the farm intent on it remaining part of the family. Jacob’s Farm had been owned by the Witkop’s for just over 100 years at that time. Mike and Laverna have kept the farm operating with an eye open for ideas to sustain its agricultural heritage into the future.

Beginning in 2006 they became more intentioned about this quest and began to seek like-minded people to partner in their sustainability effort. Early in the second century of ownership it was becoming increasingly difficult to see how to continue the Jacob’s Farm legacy.

Mike and Laverna launched Jacob’s Farm Enterprises, LLC in early 2008 creating their first maze that Fall. (Taken from their website)

Apple Slinging:

What do we do with apples we cannot use for eating? Why not fire them off at life-sized targets of football players representing Michigan State and Michigan. Its not easy, but it is a blast! The targets are 100 yards away and for some reason apples don’t fly straight! But when they hit the target……….instant apple sauce!
