Everyone knows my husband Len & I are Peter Furler fans. I felt led to write this article because the song hits home.
Before I start I must say that the words of the song are not all on here just right, but the thoughts and concept of what it says really speaks to the heart of the matter. Also, I am not Peter’s manager, publisher, or any part of his marketing department. This article may or may not be what he was thinking when he wrote the song, but it is the way I feel and experience when I hear it. I am sure there are others out there that may feel or have felt the same things I have.
Go to the bottom of this article and read the words & there will be some links to hear some of the song and buy it below….
There is a target on our back…
Wow, this is so true. Satan goes around like he is something. He takes advantage of every situation telling lies and ready to pounce on us.
1 Peter 5:8
Amplified Bible (AMP)
8 Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.
He has the same tactics as always. His whole goal is to devour you.
I like what the message bible says….
1 Peter 5:8
The Message (MSG)
He Gets the Last Word
8-11 Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. You’re not the only ones plunged into these hard times. It’s the same with Christians all over the world. So keep a firm grip on the faith. The suffering won’t last forever. It won’t be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ—eternal and glorious plans they are!—will have you put together and on your feet for good. He gets the last word; yes, he does.
We are all in this together and have felt his attacks….BUT GOD….. Oh Praise God “He makes all things beautiful in His time” Ecclesiastes 3:11
“THERE IS A TARGET ON MY BACK
John 8:44
Amplified Bible (AMP)
44 You are of your father, the devil, and it is your will to practice the lusts and gratify the desires [which are characteristic] of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a falsehood, he speaks what is natural to him, for he is a liar [himself] and the father of lies and of all that is false.
“THERE IS A TARGET ON MY BACK
We wrestle not with flesh & blood, but satan uses people and he is the father of all lies. Wow, it just hit me hard why telling lies are so ugly, hurtful, and is not what should be in a child of God. Maybe that is one of the tactics is for a believer to conform to the worlds attitude “it is only a small lie”, “a little white lie”, “it won’t hurt anyone”…..
What we need to do is to say: ” Hay hay you best be on your way”
“THERE IS A TARGET ON MY BACK”
James 4:7
King James Version (KJV)
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
“THERE IS A TARGET ON MY BACK
“Do you think I don’t see through your lame disguise. Every time your lips move I know there telling lies.”
We all have seen his disguises, but some how we continue to forget who is in control. We forget who has our back.
Romans 8:31
King James Version (KJV)
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
Psalm 5:12
King James Version (KJV)
12 For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.
Dear Son & Daughter,
Luke 22:31-32
…Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
…..But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
Jesus
2 Corinthians 1:4
King James Version (KJV)
4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
There is so much more I could say and so much I feel when listening to this song. Yes there is a target on my back, BUT GOD has covered it with the blood of Jesus….
I will leave you with that last line of Luke 22:32 …when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren….. (…turn to your companions and give them a fresh start.”)
PS…Do not focus on the target, but on THE SON & SHEILD….

“Dare I Say” – Peter Furler
Dare I say you’ve have been guessing a few things wrong.
Dare I say you’ve been playing your hand too strong.
Dare I say you get bolder when the close gets clear.
Dare I say you got some of the hang out here.
I know there’s a target on my back and your ready to attack, but there’s something that you lack. Your going to miss me.
I know you got nothin up your sleeve, so go back to where you came. It don’t matter where you aim, your going to miss me.
Dare I say all your tunes have a hollow ring.
Dare I say you can’t sail them if the bird don’t sing.
Dare I ask what are your doin on a horse that high.
Kicking dust sniffing out another best buy.
Chorus:
My my what an inconvenient lie. You used to be so right. Oh, hay hay you best be on your way. Your stillin in my life.
Dare I say I ask what exactly it is you do? I’m familiar with the hell you want to put me through.
Chorus: x2
I know you got nothin that I need. You got no one else’s to blame. So go back to where you came, I’m not going to miss you.
Dare I say you’ve been guessing a few things wrong.
Dare I say you’ve been playing your hand too strong.
Do you think I don’t see through your lame disguise. Every time your lips move I know there telling lies.
