A True Champion – Dr. Lester Sumrall

Dr. Lester Sumrall

It was many many years ago that we came across Lester Sumrall on TV. We fell in love with him right away. The anointing of God was on him and his messages. We never got to meet him, but we feel like he was family.

Lester Sumrall was called at the age of 17. He started going around the world on a boat with only $12.00. No denomination, no church, only Christ Jesus to supply his needs.

God spoke to him John 15:16 —

John 15:16
King James Version (KJV)
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Acts 1:8
King James Version (KJV)
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

God wants Producers, Achievers, & Champions. You will be Achievers and champions, he told the people.

This was one message Lester Sumrall spoke around the world. He went from country to country establishing churches and training Christians around the world.

In 1968, Lester Sumrall began what would become World Harvest Radio International. Lester Sumrall has been called the “father of Christian television”.From 1972 to 1997, he acquired television stations throughout the United States as part of World Harvest Television (also known as LeSEA Broadcasting). In 1987, Lester Sumrall established a humanitarian aid organization, LeSEA Global Feed the Hungry. (Wikipedia)
Sumrall died on April 28, 1996, at age 83.

There is no way I could say everything I would love to say about Dr Lester Sumrall. He has touched so many for Christ. He was a true Champion. One who was committed to God, to his wife, children, & the reaching the world for Christ.

Good-Bye World

One of my favorite videos of Dr Sumrall is “I did not Quit”. It was the first one we saw of him. This version is when he was older, but it still touches my heart as much as it did the first time I saw it.

I pray we all do not quit and become Champions for God….
